🚀 Getting Started
How do I create my first CV?
Go to our CV Builder, choose a template, and start filling in your details. Our AI-powered suggestions will help you write compelling content for each section. You can switch templates at any time without losing your content.
Is Resume.ie really free?
Yes! Our Free plan includes 8 professional templates, 1 active CV, PDF export, basic ATS checking, cover letter builder, and job tracker. No credit card required, no time limit. Upgrade to Pro (€9.99/mo) for all templates, AI suggestions, and more.
Can I import my LinkedIn profile?
Yes! Our LinkedIn Import tool extracts your experience, education, and skills automatically. You can paste your LinkedIn URL or upload a LinkedIn PDF. Available on Pro and Career+ plans.
How long does it take to make a CV?
Most users create a professional CV in 15-30 minutes. If you import from LinkedIn, it can be as quick as 5 minutes. Our AI suggestions help you write each section faster.
Do I need to create an account?
You can try the CV Builder without an account, but creating a free account lets you save your CV, access it from any device, track applications, and share your public profile.
Is Resume.ie suitable for the Irish job market?
Absolutely — Resume.ie is built specifically for the Irish market. Our templates use A4 format, UK English spelling, and our salary data covers Irish roles. We even have the world's only Irish-language (as Gaeilge) CV template!
🎨 Templates & Design
Which template is best for ATS?
Single-column templates like Classic, ATS-Friendly, and Clean score highest with ATS systems. Avoid complex two-column layouts and heavy graphics for roles that specifically mention ATS screening.
Can I switch templates without retyping?
Yes! Your content is separate from the design. Click any template in the CV Builder and your content will automatically reformat to the new design. Try several to see which looks best with your content.
Can I customise colours and fonts?
Yes — each template supports custom accent colours. Use the colour picker in the builder sidebar to match your personal brand or the company's brand colours.
Should I include a photo on my CV?
In Ireland and the UK, photos are generally not expected and can lead to unconscious bias. However, some European and creative roles welcome them. We offer both photo and non-photo templates so you can choose based on your situation.
How many templates are available?
We currently offer 25+ templates across various styles. Free users get 8 templates, Pro users get access to all 25+. Browse all templates in our Template Gallery.
📥 Export & Download
What formats can I download in?
Free users can download as PDF. Pro and Career+ users can also download as DOCX (Word). PDFs are A4-optimised and print-ready.
Should I use PDF or DOCX?
Use PDF unless the employer specifically requests Word format. PDFs preserve your formatting exactly and look professional on any device. Some ATS systems work better with DOCX, so having both options is ideal.
How do I share my public profile?
Go to your Public Profile and click "Share". You'll get a unique URL (resume.ie/your-name) that you can share on LinkedIn, in emails, or on your own website.
Is there a watermark on free CVs?
Free CVs include a small "Built with Resume.ie" watermark at the bottom. Upgrading to Pro removes this completely.
🛠️ Tools & Features
How does the ATS checker work?
Our ATS Checker analyses your CV against the same criteria used by Applicant Tracking Systems. It checks keyword density, formatting compatibility, section structure, and readability to give you a score out of 100 with specific improvement suggestions.
How accurate is the salary data?
Our Salary Intelligence aggregates data from multiple Irish sources including job postings, recruitment agencies, and industry surveys. Data is updated quarterly and covers 50+ roles across Dublin, Cork, Galway, and other cities.
What is the Job Match tool?
The Job Match tool compares your CV against any job description. It identifies matching keywords, missing skills, and gives you specific suggestions to tailor your CV for each application.
How does interview prep work?
Our AI Interview Prep simulates real interviews for various roles and industries. You answer questions and receive feedback on your responses, helping you prepare for the real thing.
Can I track my job applications?
Yes! Our Job Tracker uses a kanban-style board to track applications through stages: Wishlist → Applied → Screening → Interview → Offer. Never lose track of an application again.
What are Skills Assessments?
Our Skills Assessments are interactive quizzes across 6 professional categories. They evaluate your skills, identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide personalised development recommendations. Available on Career+ plan.

💡 CV Tips & Advice
How long should my CV be?
In Ireland, 2 pages is the standard for professionals with 3+ years of experience. Graduates and early-career professionals should aim for 1 page. Executives with 15+ years may use 3 pages, but keep it concise.
Should I tailor my CV for each application?
Absolutely! Tailoring your CV for each role significantly increases your chances. Use our Job Match tool to identify which keywords and skills to emphasise for each application. With Resume.ie Pro, you can create unlimited CV versions.
What sections should I include?
Essential sections: Contact Details, Professional Summary (2-3 sentences), Work Experience (most recent first), Education, and Key Skills. Optional but valuable: Certifications, Languages, Volunteer Work, Publications.
How do I write strong bullet points?
Use the formula: Action Verb + Task + Result. For example: "Led rebranding initiative that increased brand awareness by 34% across EMEA markets." Always quantify results with numbers, percentages, or euro amounts where possible.
What mistakes should I avoid?
Common mistakes: spelling and grammar errors (especially mixing US/UK English), using "Curriculum Vitae" as a heading, including personal details like age/marital status, using an unprofessional email address, and failing to customise for each application.
